Greetings!

Hope all is well. Let’s go!

⏰ How to never be late again

Do you find yourself constantly running behind?

Just can’t make appointments, meetings, and commitments on time, no matter how hard you try?

There is one consistent reason people are late: they overestimate their ability to manage time.

The key to being prompt is to create a new set of assumptions about yourself.

Going forward, assume:

  • you will forget about all your scheduled commitments

  • it will take you 25% longer to reach your destination than you think

  • your default is late unless specific action is taken to counter it

It’s important to really integrate this sense of assumptions. And by the way, this shouldn’t make you feel bad either. Our brains weren’t evolved to keep track of the sometimes dozens of daily commitments faced by modern humans.

Now that you’ve internalized this new set of assumptions, you might be wondering, so how can I actually be on time?

The key is this: create systems so foolproof that they will work, even when you forget about your commitments.

For me, this means that every morning I set alarms on my phone as a reminder before each commitment. Yes, your calendar app can send notifications, but they can easily be missed. Phone alarms go off even if the device is on silent mode. Additionally, if I need to transit somewhere I set an alarm that will prompt me to leave 15 minutes earlier than I need to be there.

🌌 A sun in the night sky

Darkness paints over the sky as night falls
Shadow encompasses all
When will the sun shine again?
When will daybreak finally come?
Wait not, look instead at the other stars in the sky
Find your sun in the night sky

Thanks for reading and talk to you next time.

Best,

Isaac
