Desires, Rainbows & Longboarding
🧲 Wants vs Desires
In my personal vocabulary, I distinguish between wants and desires.
Want = a conscious choice to pursue something
Desire = an unconscious craving for something
When making decisions, I try to differentiate if I am doing it out of wanting or desiring it.
Desires have a sneaky way of making us rationalize a decision that isn’t in our best interest.
Next time you make a big decision, ask yourself, “Am I doing this because I want it, or desire it?”
I’ve recently reconnected with my lifelong hobby of longboarding.
I specifically enjoy a style of longboarding called “dancing” that emulates movements used in longboard surfing. I’ve found that longboard dancing is the most reliable way to myself into a state of FLOW. That’s because itt takes intense focus to perform subtle footwork without falling.
I haven’t lived in an area where longboarding was a convenient hobby for the past ten years.
Luckily, my current home in Wabasha is packed full of flat streets with little traffic, making it ideal for daily practice. See a video below of what longboard dancing looks like.
(and here’s a video of all the failed attempts at recording the tricks above)
Last weekend I experienced the most stunning rainbow I’ve ever seen.
It was a complete and double rainbow stretching across beautiful Iowa farmland.
It was absolutely breathtaking and was an amazing reminder to appreciate the beauty that nature has to offer.
Thanks for reading and talk to you next time.
